Understanding Our Financial Feelings

I always ask the question about the emotional connection of money.   In church, we heard - "Money is the Root of All Evil".  However, 1 Timothy 6:10 states "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evils,” The LOVE of money is the problem.  Money is needed to effectuate actions in our lives - Housing, Food, clothing.  The basics.  It is necessary to negotiate life.   One of the things I learned in my career with a financial institution - money attracts money.

Steve Harvey said he asked his father how he could help the poor.  He was told, "Don't be one".

Yes, charity is something I feel is imperative.  Talent, money, and/or time can be given to help those who are in need. One of the things I love about my name is it reminds me of the French phrase "Nobles Oblige". Too whom much is given, much is expected.

So, money should not be considered evil.  But the emotions around money may be another story.  On my Tik Tok video, I gave some homework:  When you were a child, think about what room money was discussed.  Was it in the kitchen with parents working on paying the bills?  Was it behind closed doors because it was going to be an argument?  Was it in the living room or dining room as part of a normal conversation about money, savings and investments? The answer to that question may impact how you communicate about money to yourself and others.

So, over the next 4 weeks, we will talk about Money Trauma.   The first is Frugality and Hoarding of money.  This is me all day.  I have been impacted by my parents - both born during the depression.  This was a time in our history when jobs were few and money was short.  Take this along with Jim Crow and imagine the decisions they had to make.  There were laws that would not allow Black people in the south fto have well -paying jobs.  If they had the same job as a White person, the pay was not equal.  What did this mean?  They made do with what they had.  Nothing was thrown away.  If they did not need, a neighbor may need it.  Group support and self-reliance was imperative in   My Dad uses the phrase "What If".  He also says, "Life does not go in a straight line".  My Mom was keen on being prepared - "You must have good credit - it's better than cash and a good man".  (My Mom kept us laughing).

So, here I am still watching every penny.  I do price comparisons.  I look for coupons and cashback deals.  It is extremely hard for me to be around spenders.  Crazy fact, I will spend on my children but not spend on myself!!!  No designer purses but I do believe having a nice home and a safe car with good tires!!!  Other than that, I am not spending a lot of money.

If emotions are keeping your from reaching your financial goals, let's talk during a free sample session. I will be able to assist you in moving forward.
